Lucie Koldová, Dan Yeffet: The Test

(jiří macek) Two collaborators from the Paris-based studio of Arik Levy, Lucie Koldová and Dan Yeffet, presented their first joint Connection collection at Designblok in Prague. There were inspirational lines running across Europe among the lights, tables, and shelves, which emanated simplicity and peace in the result.

Solid oak wood, the colour white, purity, and character linked the Stix Table, the Stix Shelves and the Strip Light into a harmonious whole, which was illuminated by lamps designed by Lucie Koldová for the Czech company of Brokis. It was as if the visitors were not looking at pieces designed by a graduate from last year’s class at the AAAD in Prague – one can see the impact of a year spent in the studio of Arik Levy. When you ask Lucie Koldová, who won the Discovery of the Year – Česká spořitelna Award at Czech Grand Design last year, about Paris, she only speaks about her work. She probably cannot help it because she designs for brands about which she could only dream in the Czech Republic. Collaboration is the main theme of the personal collection, which she presented with Dan Yeffet in Prague and which equally depicts experience and passion.

“The table top is intersected with conical legs that are naturally thrust into the milled holes. The leg profile creates a triangular detail to the table top. The table can potentially combine any set of materials – wooden top with metal, natural wooden, or colour varnished legs,” describes Koldová about the Stix Table. The homonymous shelf system is based on the same principle. “The system is based on conical triangular legs onto which shelves are ‘threaded’ through milled holes that have the same form as the leg profile. Thus, the shelves fix the shape of the entire structure without a single screw. The level of the individual shelves depends on the size of the hole, determining which shelf will be attached to the legs,” She explains. The Strip Light is not only a light, but an emblem of a chandelier, a large ornament that takes us to the Near East, but primarily home. “A table and a light – this combination means the comfort of home that provides background, family, and friends,” explains Koldová and Yeffet. This is a brilliant collection.
