Křehký: Vtáčkovia, siroty a blázni (Birds, Orphans, and Fools)

The second exhibition in the Křehký gallery presents an amazing Fantasy Collection designed by Jaime Hayón for Lladró, premieres of Křehký limited editions designed by Daniel Piršč and Yveta Kroupová, plus owls from StakkeAustad and Andreas Engesvik. The exhibition will take you into a fantasy world where love and nature are as white as snow and fools are not lonely, as its subtible suggests. However, the installation, designed by Veronika Jiroušková and Maxim Velčovský, will also take your breath away.

What kind of fantasy world would it be if there was no gazebo in it? In other words, it is a place where one can hide when it is hot at noon or when it starts to rain. The family portrait by Jaime Hayón in the gazebo stops time and opens it up as well. One enters the genre of porcelain sculptures with which the porcelain factory of Lladró from the Spanish city of Valencia mesmerizes the world. Stepping into the gazebo, one becomes part of the family and can see the sun, which rotates in the gallery through unexpected apertures. This is the “world of fantasy, love, and nature, a world where the unrealizable becomes real and where one can go mad for a while, i.e. a world that everybody would like to live in and now, thanks to the designers, can”.

The porcelain Fantasy Collection, designed by Jaime Hayón for Lladró, the Panathenai porcelain set by Daniel Piršč, the Nudibranch porcelain jars by Yveta Kroupová, stampeding polka dots on the sideboard designed by Maxim Velčovský, drawings by Hayon, and Norwegian owls all develop a story, silently observed by iconic furniture pieces by Alvar Aalto from old wardrobes. Butterflies fly around; black storks chase frogs; the Baker Sofa by Finn Juhl serves as the most beautiful moss.

The Fantasy Collection, designed by Jaime Hayón, who ranks among the most renowned contemporary designers, is presented in the Czech Republic for the first time. Jaime Hayón (b.1974) is one of the busiest designers working today. He works mainly in London. Visitors to the Křehký gallery will have an opportunity to see and purchase porcelain figurines, vases, jars and lights from the Fantasy Collection, plus the unique Elements set of dressers, tables and tabourets designed for the Dutch brand of Moooi. Hayón is the creative director of Lladró. Hayón was contaminated with the precise (and in fact very traditional) world of the renowned porcelain factory. Hayón, on the contrary, infected Lladró with contemporary design, humour, and bold aesthetics, which makes the Fantasy Collection easily recognizable. The collection consists of various objects that should incite the imagination of their owners. Thus, clowns turn into lovers; children turn into clowns; a clown is a lamp that switches on when you touch the clown’s nose; and a traditional courteous scene has the form of love explosion.

The magic of the unexpected, combined with traditional themes, is encompassed in the Panathenai set by Daniel Piršč, which was inspired by the classical scene from the parade of athletes that took place in honour of Athena during the Olympics. Daniel Piřšč has even enriched the set with vases decorated by the ancient method of crenelling. The animals – a pig and a cow – come from Mikulov, where the designer has his workshop, and crumble on their way along the lines of the zeitgeist. So do the porcelain Tigers, decorated with cracks of time and motion. The Tigers were designed by for the Miracles Archive exhibition at the EXPO 2010; during the manufacturing process, Piršč imitated the flow of a river, which washes away stones and shells over time. There are cracks on the tiger bodies that evoke the illusion of running thanks to the random combination and high-grade porcelain.

The Nudibranch jars by Yveta Kroupová are inspired by the homonymous sea slugs and dining itself. Tiny jars can serve as vases and hide any secrets. However, they are especially charming for their ever-changing decoration, fineness, and calm with which they travel all across the embroidered covers.


In this world, even among insects There are some who can sing And some who cannot,says a Japanese haiku in the caption for the exhibition. Hummingbirds head towards the gazebo in the Křehký gallery and quietly tell one another what they have experienced on that particular day.
