(jiří macek) I have found the photos by the Polish duo of photographers on the brilliant photography server photo.sittcomm.sk. These photos do not look like the wedding photos that we are used to seeing. They are more fateful. With regard to the fact that wedding season is in full swing, you might find them inspiring.
Alicja Karska and Aleksandra Went met at the Academy of Arts in Gdansk several years ago. Since then, they have made photos, videos, impressive installations, and performances together. Their series of photos are mild and discreet. So are the videos that change only slightly with time. These two media sometimes support each other, e.g. in the Memory video when the camera slowly films several photos from a trip. While the waves in the lake do not move, the camcorder imperceptibly glides over a time that has stopped still. Wedding couples from the Lightbox series are unexpectedly lonely, not only in space, but each person in his/her own world. If you try to look into their eyes, your gaze will really be met. The photo.sittcomm.sk server was established in 2004 as a platform for the support and presentation of young photographers from Central and Eastern Europe. The editor and leading figure is Roman Babjak. His assistants are Lucie Nimcová, Karol Hordziej, and Krzysztof Morkus. In 2005, the Sittcomm Award (endowed with EUR 2,000) was created to promote interesting artistic testimonies that use photography as a language. The website includes the works of over sixty photographers from ten different countries. Even though photo.sittcomm focuses on documentary photography with themes related to countries where there is still a lot to document, it is necessary to forget the rooted concepts of photography that one may have.
