(jiří macek) At film festivals, film awards usually take the form of graceful statuettes. However, Daniel Pošta and Zdeněk Vacek designed a series of compotes for the Fresh Film Fest.
“We preserved fruit and tried to keep it in full feather without any marks of age so that it would be fresh forever,” say Pošta and Vacek in relation to the awards. They are also willing to share their production instructions: “Prepare six jars made from lead crystal. Clean them properly and disinfect them. Slice fruits and vegetables or cut them into various interesting shapes (there are no limits for your imagination). Place the exotic ingredients into the cylinders and pour your choice of 80 proof Czech liquor over them. Close the jars, leave them in the sun for two minutes, and they are ready for the award ceremony. Enjoy!”
At first sight, this seems to be a crazy idea. However, in the context of the Fresh Film Fest, if you perceive that these glass cylinders are manufactured in the Rückl Crystal glass factory in Nižbor, it is suddenly clear how they fit into the festival perfectly. The international festival of student and début films is a refreshing whirlwind event among film festivals. There are a selection of billboards designed by Adéla Svobodová and Paulinne Kerleraux, plus parties and movies, all culminating with a great awards show designed by Daniel Pošta and Zdeněk Vacek.
Daniel Pošta studies design at the AAAD in Prague. Zdeněk Vacek is a jewelry maker who designed the Czech Grand Design 2006 awards in the form of a brooch containg a parfume flacon in the shape of an orchid.
For those who would like to know who received which award, here are the winners: limes won for the Fresh Generation category; hokkaido pumpkins won for the Official Selection – Competition; a kumkwat won for Kontakt; a mango won for the Audience Award; a gold kiwifruit for the Centropa category, and a romanesco cauliflower won for Theatre Optique.
For more information about the individual categories and winners, see www.freshfilmfest.net. In my opinion, the winners are Daniel Pošta and Zdeněk Vacek together with the romanesco cauliflower. Great awards.
