Marcel Wanders: Kill the Piggy Bank & Something for Children

(jiří macek) For his home brand of Moooi, Marcel Wanders has designed a piggy bank entitled The Killing of the Piggy Bank, which is not only an account of a traditional pig feast but also a vase; he has also designed the Parent ultra light set of a table and chair, with which children can replay iconic gunfights from spaghetti westerns.

Wanders depicts the traditional piggy bank in the moment of its destruction. It is fervently exaggerated and movingly naive. The design of a banal situation of a children’s financial crisis is made in fairy-tale details. The piggy sees its entire life flash in front of its eyes in the last moment of its existence. However, if one uses the piggy as a vase, which the designer himself recommends, one directly enters heaven and all ends well with the piggy. If one finds the Parent chair and table unusually light, it has nothing to do with heaven - they are made from polystyrene despite the robust shapes that refer to baroque woodcarvers.
