(jana zielinski) Dining is a matter common to all cultures. However, there are many differences in various countries in the way meals are served and what rituals accompany dining. In some countries, people almost consider plastic forks as miracles; Europeans experiment with molecular cuisine. A joint project of Dutch designer Kiki van Eijk and the studio of Scholten & Baijings perceives this phenomenon from a new perspective.
The designers have designed new dining collections for the Dutch festival of Object Rotterdam in collaboration with the Dutch glassmaker of Royal Leerdam Crystal, Koninklijke Van Kempen & Begeer, which manufactures cutleries and table accessories, and the Audax Textile Museum in Tilburg. The new collections are, in fact, works of art with hidden sociological meaning.
Stefan Scholten (b.1972) and Carole Baijings (b.1973) founded the studio of Scholten & Baijings in 2000. Their work is characterized by minimalism and a sense of detail. Kiki van Eijk (b.1978), whom we have already mentioned on this portal, sells her objects in galleries all over the world and focuses primarily on conceptual design bordering with art.
