The stylish garden of the Grand Café Orient at the House of the Black Madonna on the corner of Celetná street and Ovocný trh represents an ideal place for summer relaxation. The cubist café, a replica of the original cubist café designed by architect Josef Gočár in 1911 for the House of the Black Madonna, has scored another victory. It has ordered the fabulous Chair One by German designer Konstantin Grcic for its street garden.
This aluminum beauty from the Italian manufacturer Magis has already been recorded in the history of design and has become a pioneer of a new style – neocubism (or diamantism, if you wish). Chair One is elegant, yet industrial and robust. Nevertheless, it makes a very light impression. In any case, one can hardly forget its shape. Konstantin Grcic designed it in 2003. He was born in Munich in 1965. He studied handicrafts (cabinet desk manufacturing) and later design at the Royal College of Art in London. Although he is usually labeled as a minimalist, his Chair One proves that his designs are minimalist with a human scope. Konstantin Grcic was a guest at last year’s Designblok. Chair One and all Magis products are sold in the Czech Republic by 3DH.
