Salim Issa: In One Glance

(jiří macek) An expressive cross-section of the contemporary Czech fashion has just been published and is presented in an editorial by Salim Issa for the guide to design and style in Prague - “Design Guide 2009.” The leading role is played not only by fashion, but also by the use of domestic animals.

Unlike fixed concepts whose main objective is, according to the creative intention, to deal with the styling and selection of models in as much detail as possible, the concept of the Design Guide focuses on the variety of attitudes towards works that have been presented by a number of fashion designers. Twenty-nine fashion designers, ranging from students to well-established stars, whose names can be found in the programme of this year’s Designblok Fashion Week, were given the chance to choose everything themselves: the clothes they wanted to present themselves with, the model who best represents their work, and, eventually the final decisions for styling, hairstyle, and make-up. Following this process, the single models were placed into random groups into which Salim Issa incorporated all the most important domestic animals you can find in the Czech villages. Thus, an imaginary street was created where girls from high society meet with people who simply go out for a walk. The contrasting clothes, differences in attitudes, and the elusiveness of the animal restlessness worked almost on its own. The subtle play of fashion outstretched its wings. Wouldn’t it be great if our streets looked like this? Full of colors, liberty, and emotions?
