(jiří macek) At Designblok, the studio of Llev presents an original collection and a brilliant bathroom set entitled Olymp, designed for the Czech manufacturer of Jika. Simple furniture with thoughtful details and the highly visible poetics of the studio tells a lot about forests and Scandinavia.
“The Olymp furniture is derived from the elegant radius shape of the homonymous range of washbasins offered by Laufen CZ, for which the furniture has been designed. Originally, there were two variants – a standing one and a suspension one. With regard to the fact that customers usually are not interested in suspension furniture because it requires a high bearing capacity from the walls, we decided for the standing variant,” explain Eva and Marcel Mochal, a.k.a. Llev, whose interest in the culture of Scandinavian countries is exposed primarily in the simplicity of their designs and in the materials used – with wood dominating. The Olymp furniture makes use of birch wood. A birch veneer is utilized for the cupboards and the contrasting white doors are lacquered.
“The furniture is sufficiently spacious and practical. The long handle can also serve as a towel holder. Another important feature is the laundry basket, formed in such a way to offer maximum space – it copies the radius of the door. Apart from the cupboards under the washbasin and laundry baskets, this furniture range also offers 130cm tall cupboards and containers on castors. The corner washbasin (with a mobile corner container and a corner mirror cupboard) can be placed in a very small bathroom.” The price is also very interesting because “the same size of doors and mirrors makes the production cheaper,” explain Llev. This really is well-done.
The Llev presentation at Designblok can be found in Superstudio Classic 7, on Jankovcova 49. The superstudio is open daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
