(jana zielinski) Fashion designer Paul Smith will exhibit the work of Mr. Matsumoto at the Fashion Week and Design Festival. The exhibition of the Japanese artist (also known under the name of BOKU) takes place in Paul Smith’s boutique in Covent Garden.
Mr. Matsumoto was born in a small Japanese village in 1962. He has studied woodworking, created objects of art, and loved the sea since he was a little boy. He also writes essays and sings songs. “My objects are the most extraordinarily ordinary things around us that we can find in our everyday life. Thanks to them, I am able to find the most universal human stories,” says Mr. Matsumoto. His objects – a robot, a typewriter, and a sewing machine – are handmade from wood and brass. Look at them through Mr. Matsumoto’s eyes. They will turn into friends whom you will never want to abandon. And they will never let you go. You will take their image with you. It’s no wonder that a whole range of them is exhibited in hospitals and institutions. Looking at them, you will find out why. For more information, see www.boku.info.
