(jana zielinski) “Starbrick is an experiment with light, shaping, and space,” says Danish artist Olafur Eliasson about his project for Zumtobel, the prominent light manufacturer. The basic shape, which Eliasson used, is a brick. However, he gradually worked his way through to a stellar shape that can be folded, concealing several surprises.
Thus, a beautiful front light wall and a very impressive sculpturesque back wall have been created thanks to the modules. The overall appearance is along cubist lines. The context in which one uses the light is crucial in this project. The system can be changed according to the type of architecture in which it is located – depending on the number and use of the individual modular bricks. The Starbrick light has several outer and inner planes - each view is different. It would be impossible for this light to become commonplace - Olafur Eliasson would not be himself if he did not ask profound questions. How does light define space? How does light influence the space in which we find ourselves? The answer is written in the stars.
