Jacopo Foggini: A Table with Very Light Dance Steps

(jiří macek) Edra presented one artistically table in Milan this year. Its avant-garde shape, inspired by the capriccio music style, was designed by Jacopo Foggini, who is famous primarily for the spectacular lighting creations he has made from methacrylate. However, this table is made from glass and iron.

The supporting element is made from a bent steel tube and buffed by hand. The table top has the form of a 15 mm thick glass plate. The table and its workmanship represent a completely new experience both for Edra (which would like to focus on tables in the future with the same energy and creativity as it has concentrated on with seating furniture thus far) and Italian artist Jacopo Foggini, who has made only artistic installations, sculptures, and individual lights. His essential material is metacrylic resin due to its color and forming options. Thus, the end result is close to glass. However, its application is much better, according to the designer. Even though one can see a fairly avant-garde table reminiscent of the 1980s design, it is a very purist and simple piece in the context of Foggini’s work. As for capriccio, the highly brisk pace of this music style is usually associated with Italian baroque, but can also be found in the works of Ludwig van Beethoven, Ferenz Liszt, Leoše Janáček, and especially the virtuoso compositions of Niccolo Paganini. The roller coaster of the table legs reflects it accurately – it is similarly unrestrained, hurrying, and full of virtuoso leaps.
