Anu Penttinen: Showcases

(jiří macek) Do you not know where to put all the conches and stones? Anu Penttinen has designed an unexpected solution for storing small objects for the Finnish brand of Iitala. It is called Vitrini and combines glass, wood, and aluminum, always respecting the fundamental idea of the entire collection, i.e. the transparent message of what is inside.

The glass on the boxes, presented in an entire spectrum of amazing colors that are hard to find in Czech glassworks, reveals the contents. It is both practical and enhances the play of the colors. Apart from the interesting effect of combining colors with wood and aluminum, the collected items and their colors also play a significant role. Vitrini means “a showcase” in Finnish. These showcases are very personal indeed. They are made by Iitala in two sizes – 6cm x 6cm and 10.8cm x 10.8cm.

Apart from the Vitrini, the Iitala catalogue includes wonderful glass birds designed by Anu Penttinen, which demonstrate that Anu Penttinen is not only a designer, but also an artist from the world of artistic glass. The studio of the graduate from the University of Art and Design in Helsinki can be found in the Finnish glassmaking town of Nuutajarvi.

Iitala products can be purchased at Designor in the Czech Republic.
