FormaFantasma: Tribal Fighters

(jiří macek) The Italian duo of Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Farresin from the Design Academy in the Dutch city of Eindhoven consistently explores the way how roots and traditions permeate objects and are retrospectively imprinted into our cultural patterns. Although this may seem a little complicated, the result is always a wonderful collection. The Moulding Tradition collection from this year is no exception.

Sicilian ceramic vases refer to the Arabic-African cultural influences, which introduced distinctive color into decoration in Italy. Today, when immigrants see traditional Italian ceramics, they must have the impression of having returned back home. Thus, the nine pieces from the snow-white porcelain collection designed by Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Farresin naturally interweave African myths and images as if these were scenes from the history of their native Italy. The Maasai granny will not be surprised at all. Their grandsons include both tribal fighters and Giacomo Puccini.
